BJJ Competition Day Checklist — Pack Everything, Forget Nothing
A complete checklist so you are not anxious on competition morning, from essential gear to managing your mindset.
Everyone has had that anxious moment on competition morning: "Did I pack that?" Go through this checklist once the night before you leave, and on the day your mind can stay fully on your matches.
Essentials
- Gi (freshly washed) — check the event rules for white, blue or black
- Belt — a spare belt is a good idea
- Photo ID — required for identity checks at weigh-in and check-in
- Registration confirmation — save the QR code from the ROLLER app in advance
- Cash/card — for the snack bar and unexpected expenses
Things that affect your performance
- Snacks and meals — easy-to-digest foods like bananas, energy bars and sandwiches. Have something ready to eat right after weigh-in
- Water and sports drinks — at least 1.5 L. Rehydrating after weigh-in is a must
- Basic first-aid kit — bandages, athletic tape, antiseptic
- Slippers — no bare feet off the mat (hygiene)
Weight management
- Check your final weight the night before (wearing your gi)

Mental preparation
- Check the brackets in advance and learn about your opponents
- Arrive at least an hour before your first match so you have time to warm up
- Focus on doing your game rather than on winning or losing
Night-before routine
Pack your bag in advance and get 7–8 hours of sleep. The day before the event, loosen up with light stretching instead of hard training.
